I am a native Georgian, born in Griffin. My dad, sister & I could all draw, but I was the only one that has pursued a career in art (after motherhood and corporate life). First things First! I thought I was getting old at the age of 35, (imagine that), now that I am a grandmother, I know how young that was. Of course, I am a very young grandmother or ME MA. The way my art career began, was that one afternoon I went into an art store in Lawrenceville, Georgia to buy some art supplies to try to teach myself to paint. Bobby Sikes worked there and is now a famous artist but at that time he was a young man of 16. He asked me if I had ever studied art. I never had, so he took me into his art class and there was a group of people painting! I began my career in that little studio in Lawrenceville, Georgia in the 80's. I turned out to be a pretty versitale painter, not only painting in pencil, oils, acrylics, pastels and taught myself to paint in watercolor. I love painting most everything, especially birds, animals, fish, landscapes, and florals. As long as I am painting, I am a happy girl! Through the years, I have won numerous blue ribbons and best of show. I was featured in Georgia Trend Magazine in March 2002, Women in Business in 2002. In 1992 the Hitaachi Corporation purchased one of my large abstract paintings for their corporate office. I was one of three artists chosen to present a painting to the Governor of Georgia in the 80's with a portrait painting of William McIntosh, Creek Indian Chief of Indian Springs, GA (you will find him on this web site). I retired from Georgia Power/Southern Company in 1996 after a career as Executive Assistant to the Sr. VP of Nuclear Power and as Executive Assistant to the Sr. VP of Risk Managemen. When my husband retired from Delta Airlines, we moved to Lake Oconee. I founded Magnolia Art Gallery in 1998. Magnoliaartgallery.com is our web site. This is one of the finest art galleries in the country. We provided the art work for the Ritz Carlton with our Audubons, the Creek Club with our Audubons and botanticals. We just finished the Linger Longer Steak House with our originals and Audubons! I love painting, reading, being with my children and grandchildren and being in the outdoors. I simply get so excited when seeing my clients fall in love with a beautiful painting. At Magnolia Art Gallery, our specialty is Southern art, but the range of work conveys so much more. We have one of the most diverse selections of art in the country. To quote one of my clients, 'this is such a magical place, a wonderful enriching visual art resource for this community '. Thank you for visiting our web site and enjoying our work.
