After several years at Art College (now part of the University of Wales), Mai began painting professionally in 1950. She has enjoyed painting in many countries, from the UK and the Continent to S.E.Asia.
Her works include official portraits of Royalty, Heads of State, prominent figures and several significant historical works for the National Museum of Brunei Darussalam.
Mai also writes the Grey (supernatural) Mystery Thrillers starring the artist Clarrie Hunter! Her fourth novel in the series will soon be published.
A personal note from Mai:
I accepted commissions while still at Art Academy - among my first was a Christmas frieze for a shop window. Finding that people paid me for doing what I enjoyed most was great, but after leaving I needed regular employment and was lucky enough to be accepted as a budding toy designer for Chiltern Soft Toys. I had always enjoyed designing my own dresses so had no problem with toys - it was fun, and thrilling when, after a few months, my first design went into production.
After marrying in 1952, my life changed dramatically every three years - the length of an army posting! Everywhere we went I set up a studio and have enjoyed living in many different places all over the world. I painted almost every day for 8 - 10 hours on commission, although I never advertised, or needed an agent until I came to Spain.
Now retired, I still accept work, particularly for portraits and enjoy painting as much as I ever did. Joining this site has given me the incentive to make my paintings available as prints to a wider public.
