Before rediscovering painting last year, Marc Pouhé was an award-winning actor from Austin, Texas. Marc discovered acting at Tulane University when a friend suggested he audition for William Shakespeare's Pericles. He quickly became a student of classical theatre and contemporary drama but also excelled in musical roles such as Chicago's Billy Flynn.
Marc launched his professional acting career in 2004 and has worked extensively with Austin's finest theatre organizations including Zach Theatre, Austin Shakespeare, and Mary Moody Northen Theatre at St. Edward's University. Theatre credits include title characters in Macbeth and Othello, leading roles in Chicago, Six Degrees of Separation, Death and the King's Horseman, Master Harold and the Boys, and supporting roles in Urinetown, Jesus Christ Superstar, Take Me Out, The Exonerated, The Grapes of Wrath, Three Sisters, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Glass Menagerie, and several others. Marc is a three-time winner of the Austin Critics' Table Award and is a three-time nominee for the B. Iden Payne Acting Award.
Marc underwent a major life change after being diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, following an award winning performance as wayward preacher James Casey in The Grapes of Wrath in May 2009. He moved to Harlingen shortly after being diagnosed so that his mother, a pharmacist, could help guide and manage his treatment. Marc was introduced to his nephrologist, Dr. Oladayo Sanusi, in January of 2010. It is this doctor/patient relationship that influenced and encouraged Marc to begin painting again. He finds the creative outlet provided by painting to be an excellent surrogate for the creative rewards provided by acting. Marc enjoys the concrete nature and permanence of his artwork and looks forward to continued growth and development in the visual arts.
