When I paint I get lost and absorbed, time stands still and my mind is engaged in the now. There's something about the brush strokes on canvas that feels therapeutic to me. I dream about brush strokes. I love color the way some people love chocolate. Painting makes me feel alive -- I work freely and intuitively in the moment, leaving behind angst and just enjoying the creative process. Painting, and particularly painting en plein air, just 'plain' makes me happy. I work quickly to capture a freshness, many times alla prima (in one sitting). I like acrylics because of their versatility, practicality and vividness--but have worked in other mediums as well; oil, pastel, and pen and ink.
While much of art is subjective as far as personal preference, I do hope my work reflects my love of God's creation and color-- and the joy of creativity.

My journey with art is a continual quest to capture what I love on canvas… to redisplay and reinterpret the wonders I find in nature, people, colors & form. I feel compelled to emulate what fascinates my senses – to catch the light, shadows, color and mood of a subject. I have been influenced mostly by the French Impressionists, primarily Pissarro and Cezanne, and the incredible work of the early 20th century California Impressionist Movement.
I have always had a keen interest in art since early childhood, we had no TV and my siblings and I spent much of our time drawing, painting and in creative pursuits. I began my formal education in art, but chose eventually to focus instead on music. Although writing, recording/performing & teaching music has been the main area of focus most of my adult life, the study of art and drawing/painting has been a close parallel and I have been pursuing that area of interest again more intensely over the last several years. In this I have discovered that with art-- just as with music-- the process of tapping into intuition and the courage to express and communicate, are skills that are interchangeable.
As a working artist, some of my activities include illustrating artistic tourist maps for various cities in the U.S., painting and designing play sets, murals, and commissioned paintings.
