I love creating art, because it takes me into that eternal space in which the stresses of time drop away. Ah, to dwell always in that space!
I've been an artist all my life. My mother was a well-known painter in Richmond, VA and she taught me to draw when I was a young girl and encouraged me over the years. She believed in my talent, and that meant more than I could ever put into words. I began my love affair with photography decades ago and it continues to this day.
I've painted in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and digitally. My love for the textile arts expressed itself in embroidery paintings, clothing design, and applique.
Each artist has his or her distinctly individual expression. How would I describe mine? I paint in a variety of styles, from traditional and painterly to decoratively. My two favorite painters are John Singer Sargent and Matisse. I love Sargent's realism and Matisse's whimsy. I know that I will never equal the mastery of either painter, but they are my inspiration.
