Maritza Bermudez

I am a third generation artist. My inspiration and interest in art comes from a family background of painters and writers. I started painting consistently 25 years ago when I moved to Wheaton, Illinois, so I consider myself a late bloomer. Painting is my passion and addiction and I paint every day. My favorite medium is watercolors although I also paint with acrylics and pastels. I believe art in all its forms is the expression of the artist as seen through his eyes and heart. The empty canvas and paper are waiting for me to receive my energy. Flowers and nature are my favorite subjects as inspired by the beautiful tropical flora of my native island, Puerto Rico.

I have a BA from the University of Puerto Rico (1963). Studied at the Instituto de Bellas Artes, Madrid, Spain from 1963-1966. I have studied under several local artists in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico. I have 25 years of successful showings in galleries and art shows. I am a winner of many awards. My art is exhibited in corporations and private collections. As a member of several art leagues and associations, I am very involved in all aspects of promoting art in the community. I teach art at local art leagues, galleries and at my home studio.
