Mark Cawood - Fine Artist
Originally from Liverpool, commenced my formal training studying Art and Design at Barking College in Essex, before graduating with an honours degree in Graphic Fine Art (specialising in visual communication) at the University of East London in 2,000.
I have since concentrated on theme based projects, largely comprising of conceptual work covering sensitive issues such as the recent bacterial outbreaks within Britain's food industry and the subsequent concerns for health and animal welfare. I deliver presentations focusing on narrative art at colleges and universities around the UK, sell work and accept commissions on-line, I have supported the charity 'Paintings in Hospitals' and regularly participate in group and solo exhibitions including the Malvern Theatres, Cambridge Art Fair, Liverpool Academy of Arts and Callow's Yard Gallery.
Images are unpredictable, perhaps even erratic, no one can be sure what affect they will have on the viewer. The image has the potential power to evoke intense mood and feeling however only at a price, it must remain comprehensible otherwise all credibility is lost.
For the past three years I have focussed almost entirely on painting, frequently alternating between styles and media, however the content of which has remained constant incorporating a social and topical relationship with reality.
My series of work entitled ‘Distance Between Land and Sea’ are a collection of large oil paintings (each 24x30in) focusing on the contemporary issue of global climate change, comprising of a unique and perhaps alternative view of seascape artwork set within an environmental theme.
The conceptual project entitled ‘Food for Thought’ focuses on bacterial outbreaks that have occurred within the British farming industry in recent years such as the infamous BSE (more popularly referred to as Mad Cow) disease which resulted in the deaths of millions of livestock.
On the FAA website I have included examples not yet fully developed in terms of concepts or themes, subjects ranging from neo-representational figurative paintings to still-life work bordering on abstract.
