Roman amphitheatres and Greek arenas have fascinated the artist ever since he was a child marching around Chester's Roman city walls. The Deva amphitheatre has now been partially excavated and gladiatorial re-enactments entertain the tourists. The artist has travelled around the Mediterranean during summer holidays exploring these ancient architectural sites with their dramatic geometry and his paintings recreate memories of these visits. Exhibited in Manchester, Oldham, Leeds, Derby, Chester, Arles, Orange and the Mall galleries London.
