Washington State native Mark lives and works in the Puget Sound, where he received his art education from The Art Institute of Seattle and Cornish College of the Arts. Mark works primarily in representational form in oil in his traditional work, utilizing variants upon the tried and true Venetian and Flemish techniques of layer upon layer of translucent and opaque oils to create the richest possible surface, to not merely apply paint to a canvas, but to craft a work of art and a thing of beauty. However, he is proficient in both traditional and digital media, using each to accentuate the other and as tools to explore humanness, emotion, consciousness, and civilization. Mark’s work is also inspired by his wickedly bizarre but clever sense of humor, often touching upon the absurdly unlikely, otherworldly, darkly optimistic, and utterly peculiar. When not painting, Mark enjoys running, absorbing any and all science fiction, boxing, salsa dancing, writing, hiking, furthering his art education, and exploring the intricacies of merely being human.
