Dr. MaryAnn Stafford is a pastel and watermedia artist who resides in Maumelle, Arkansas. Although Dr. Stafford often works with watermedia, ink, and colored pencil, pastel is her favorite media. Her education credentials include a BSE and a MA degree in English; art hours from Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Arkansas; and an EdD in Secondary Education with an emphasis in art education from the University of Arkansas. She began the art program at Pine Bluff High School when she began teaching in 1965. She also taught English and Humanities for 16 years and was the assistant principal there from 1985-1990. She retired from the Arkansas Department of Education in July, 1993.
In addition to her formal art training, Mary Ann has studied with several nationally recognized artists, including Doug Dawson, Daniel E. Green, Sally Strand, Gerald Brommer, Carol Katchen, Sheila Parsons, Bob Rohm, Larry Blovits, Alan Flattman, Maggie Price, and Skip Lawrence. Still and educator, she teaches at the Arkansas Arts Center and in Maumelle as well as holding workshops in painting and drawing throughout the state.
Dr. Stafford has been juried iinto many regional and national shows and is a signature member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest in Texas, and the Mid Southern Watercolorists. Solo shows have been in Fort Smith, Russellville, Springdale, El Dorado, Pine Bluff, Stuttgart, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. Her paintings are in private collections in Arkansas, South Carolina, Maryland, Montana, Texas, and New York. Her paintings can be seen at Eurekan Art in Eureka Springs and Gallery 221 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is also a member of the Arkansas Artists' Registry, Conway League of Artists, Arkansas League of Artists, and is a charter member of the Arkansas Pastel Society.
