'As an artist I have always hoped to touch the heart of the viewer with a smile, a memory, a desire to know the spirit of a creature and the beauty of the natural world.' Mary has been painting for over 35 years dedicating over 25 of those years to teaching and designing educational material. Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the US and Canada. The award winning artist enjoyed her first solo show in 2010. In 2010 she was selected as the artist in residency at Cheraw State Park in SC.
'Having lived in 13 states, we selected SC for our retirement. Now I have time to return to more work in watercolor, but not forsaking my acrylic and oil roots. The fluid movement of watercolor is challenging and rewarding.'
For many years Mary volunteered at zoos and nature preserves from Illinois to Pennsylvania to Tennessee. This gave her the opportunity to work hands on with a pack of gray wolves and present conservation education programs. In 1998, she helped design, build, and manage an educational raptor center for non-releasable birds of prey. 'These experiences solidified my childhood connection with nature and provided me with endless visual and emotional images.'
Mary works mostly from photographs often combining one or more photos. 'I love my light-filled studio but I now have two beautiful horses which was another childhood dream come true. Often the paint brush must play second to the grooming brush!'
Orginal paintings for sale include framing and matting where applicable. All work is original and protected by copyright.
