Hello everyone, my name is Michael Flynt. I'm a 50 year old gay Buddhist artist living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I'm trained primarily as a sculptor but in the last few years Ive been hard at work learning how to paint and am very excited to offer up my first true paintings! I've been an artist all my life but was discouraged from pursuing a career in fine art, and as a result only later in life have I actually devoted all of my attention to it. When you view my work, the first thing you my notice is that I appear to be a photo realist , but this is not totally accurate. All though I am a realist I also utilize just about every other painting discipline in my work. I guess I could be described as a photo realist-minimalist but in reality I'll utilize any discipline that best communicates what I'm trying to say. For me the various painting disciplines are tools to more clearly communicate the artist's message. As a result, most of my paintings utilize multiple disciplines in order to make my message as clear as possible .
So what is my message? Well, as a Buddhist I believe strongly in self-honesty and introspection, so most of my work is designed to instill self- reflection on a deep, even subliminal level, concerning the human condition. Looking at most of the contemporary painting out there in the world I can't help but notice that it concentrates almost exclusively on the negative aspects of the human condition. I would rather concentrate on the positive aspects of the human condition ie: love, happiness, compassion, generosity, self acceptance, those things . Because unless we can see our selves as strong positive beings how can we possibly see others in that light. As a result my work tends toward the positive and sensual. I sincerely hope that when you look at my work you come away with a happier and clearer understanding of self. OK! Enough of my platitudes, here's my work I hope you love it and please remember I will be adding more as I complete it.
With great appreciation,
