Michael Wicksted was born in San Rafael, California but also lived in locations from Hawaii to Newfoundland. His grandfather, an artist by profession, was Michael's original inspiration in art, particularly due to his amazing pen and ink drawings. Michael concentrated his own early art endeavors in this media.
After studying psychology at UCLA, Michael enrolled in the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. This experience was amazing, but circumstances led him to a different career path. However, the appreciation for fine art never left and he recently rekindled his commitment to his art.
The original focus on pen and ink drawings expanded to include bold and colorful landscapes, portraits, and even the use of airbrush techniques in photorealistic paintings. His color brushwork often incorporates a modified pointillism style drawn from his earlier pen and ink work, using pure bright colors and achieving tonal variations and shading with the proximity of the color points. His goal is to grab the eye, and draw the viewer into the scene by interpreting subject matter with fresh techniques.
