I am a self taught Artist/Photographer. Owner of MindWinder Studios, a graphic design company in the San Diego area. I also currently freelance for Viz Entertainment/Cartoon Network on the graphic novels for “Redakai”. Past clients that I've also worked for are Boom Studios/Pixar on the comic book series “Toy Story” and various covers for Disney Comics such as Mickey Mouse and Uncle Scrooge, Mattel, Image Comics, Markosia Comics, BlueWater Comics, Digital Webbing, and Kenzer & Company.
I also been teaching 3D Animation, Multimedia Production,Contemporary Design, and Web design at Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley, CA since 2000.
My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience, but I've always loved comic books, particularly work by Jack Kirby, Dick Giordano, John Romita Sr, Barry Windsor Smith, John Byrne and Neal Adams. This love of comics began in the mid sixties in Europe when I was growing up on a military base in Germany. That love is now a reality as I now help create comic books for Pixar and Disney.
Having grown up in Europe and loving history I was also exposed to the European architecture and arts. My favorite artist was Rembrandt. His effective use of light and shadow in “The Nightwatch” amazed me, which I feel influences my photography. I also seem to have a fascination for the old roman statues and different types of architecture.
As far as explaining my work I always thought that if you've made a picture and that's how you wanted it to be - it would be able to speak for itself and whatever it says to the viewer - it's the right message, because there isn't a wrong and a right message. As the saying goes 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. If each person takes away something a little different from viewing my work then I'm happy with that.
