Mike Goebel - Fine Artist

Salisbury, MD - United States

Headshot is of my son, Carter. We think he may have the talent dad had which, unfortunately, skipped me and my sisters, so Carter is the leagacy of dad, and I feel dad sees the world throgh Carter's eyes.

My name is Mike Goebel. My father, John G. Goebel (1924-1984) is the artist, and here is his profile. We are listing the works we have available, which will number 25-30. We cannot sell the originals, but will have reproductions of all.

John Goebel was born in 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, and died in 1984 in Salisbury, Maryland.

After his tour in the Navy in WWII, John Goebel studied Architecture at Johns Hopkins University. He then began working for Aircraft Armaments International (AAI) in Baltimore, and at the same time studied art at the Maryland Institute of Art. In 1974, while working for Carroll Engineering, he moved his family to Salisbury, MD where he continued working for Andrew Booth Engineering. John was an avid fan of music and played saxophone in a jazz band. He also raced automobiles at the amateur level in SCCA. He was always a devoted father and husband. He married Margaret Turner in 1960 and they raised 3 children here on the Eastern Shore; Michael, Patricia and Christine. At all times John continued to indulge his passion for art. These pictures are his surviving works. Unfortunately, we feel many others have been lost along the way.

Architect was how he paid the bills. Art was his passion. As the cancer sapped his energy in 1984, he would not give up until he was literally too weak to hold a pencil with which to draw, at which time he told us he was ready to 'go'.

Pencil/graphite was his favorite medium. And with this he sktched seascapes, lighthouses, architactural landmarks, and airplanes. but his truest passion was cars, and this comes through in his detailed drawings.
