I was born in Baoma (Kpengeh) a small but important village then, now gradually becoming a town in Bonthe District, Sierra Leone... I started drawing from a very young age. After sixth form, I found work as a serial cartoonist at the Sierra Leone Daily Mail, in Freetown. My featured cartoon strip was called 'MOPEH and MUSU'. These were published well towards the late 1980's even after I'd left the beautiful
shores of Sierra Leone to study industrial design in Moscow between 1985 and 1988. Regretfully, I dropped out of course with only 2 years left!
In mid-1985, myself, and two friends started a monthly comic book titled 'THE KRAWO' to critical acclaim from the public and BBC's FOCUS on AFRICA programme and Michigan State University Library, who possibly have the only copy or copies world-wide . Coming to live in the United Kingdom in 1988, I almost abandoned my art to join in the mundane aspects of life to support myself and family still living in war-torn Sierra Leone. In 2001, my bus garage (Travel London), in Battersea south London, recommended me to take part in a BBC art series titled 'ROLF ON ART' . It was presented by the famous Australian artist, Rolf Harris. I must hasten to add that it was not a competition as done these days for reality TV! It was just to showcase artistic talents of people in all walks of life...After a 10 year break and a traumatic loss of my bus driving job at another bus company, I've finally decided to paint and present to the world, my view of Sierra Leone life and her landscapes.
In addition to painting, I also love photography and have loads of Sierra Leone photos on www.panoramio.com - mudiama kammoh's photos. Please pay a visit to this beautiful land of most welcoming people!
