Prior to moving to the Berkshires in 1967, Schiffer had been playing piano professionally and giving piano lessons in New York City for ten years. Fascinated with photography and the visual arts since childhood, he took classes in fashion photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology while persuing music as his vocation.
Now that he's about to enter his ninth decade, he has chosen to fulfill his earlier hopes of concentrating on his photography by exhibiting his new digital work in galleries, restaurants, and libraries as well as in public and private collections.
Of particular interest is his Motion Capture series, in which sources of light are captured by a moving camera. All these images are created within the camera, not by means of digital manipulation.
