I was born to Belgian parents who traveled extensively around the world, and who collected many works of art. Within the walls of my home, I was influenced by books and paintings that came from Africa, the Middle East and Haiti. My early memories of wanting to be an artist stemmed from observing the colors in these paintings.
I get many comments on my use of color, which makes my painting experience so wonderful, and which people seem to enjoy. I would like to share a tidbit about that... I was at odds with my teacher in 'color' class, who tried to convince me to tone down my colors and accept a more neutral pallet. I tried, but failed. I received a B grade in the class. I still stand strong behind my love of colors and how they relate in the palette I love best.
I now have settled in San Francisco and continue to paint with an emphasis on colors and how they relate, mostly looking at the urban landscape before me.
