The sea and the ships that sail it, Marine Art is my specialty. Watercolors, my preferred medium help me to depict the moods of the elements along the coast of Maine. I don't want anyone guessing about my subject matter. I want them to become a friend and partner in my voyage, to feel the fog, hear the bell buoys, follow the lighthouses and feel the tilt of the deck as we sail the seas together.
I am primarily a self taught artist. During childhood my Mother, who attended both Pratt Institute and Boston University taught me the basics of watercolor. Mom's greatest gift was exposure to the great artists and museums of our area. Visiting museums in person and on line is still a passion I indulge. Occasional lessons or visits and discussions with my peers also help to keep my art fresh and invigorating.
The Lighthouse Museum in Rockland Maine has many of my paintings hanging in the Conference room. The summer issue of 'Sea History' magazine the publication of the National Maritime Historical Society is featuring my image 'Twelve Knots from the deck of American Eagle' on the cover and includes two articles featuring my works. Other works are being shown nationally on a regular basis. Currently I am a member of the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, CT., the USCG Art Program and a winner of their George Gray Award., Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists, American Watercolor Society, and Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
