Oz Freedgood was born in Detroit, Mich. He is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design
and studied Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, as well as various classes at the New School.
His work has been exhibited in shows and galleries from Boston to Washington, D.C.
During WWII he served in combat, as a navigator in the 8th Air Force. After returning to civilian life,
he worked in various advertising agencies and art studios, including Wesley Assoc., Grey Advertising
and Roger Studio. He also taught Advertising Design at Cooper Union. In 1948 he founded Oz Greeting Cards,
pioneering contemporary (studio) cards. It was sold in 1967. He worked as Art Director at
Colourpicture Publishers until 1970 , when he founded Whitehall Games. Whitehall produced educational toys and games.
In 1989 he sold the company to Ideal School Supply and retired. During all these years he continued to paint and exhibit.
In 1991 he joined his wife in her Antique business.
In 2007 he retired again.
He teaches privately and at Tyler State Park.
