I have always been an artist. The artist label first appeared in elementary school when I was 'elected' to draw the majority of our class open house project. Even though no one else volunteered, I was thrilled by the challenge and the 'artist' label that proudly remains attached to me today. As artistic opportunities continued to come my way, I decided to study art and make it a career. That career has varied over the years starting with my BA in fine arts from Indiana University Bloomington in both drawing and graphic design. I worked in the design field as an artist for a printer, a publisher and an advertising agency before having a family. I learned deadlines, how to get the job done and to communicate visually to satisfy the client. After having my two boys I returned to the art field, this time as an educator teaching art for grades K-8 plus classes at our local performing arts center. No deadline stress and the fun of creating artwork with kids brought back memories of those first artistic moments in my own life. As my own kids have left for college, I have redefined my art career again. I have always created art and I'm still teaching but now I felt the chance and freedom to create fine art as I always said I would one day. That one day has come and with my diverse experience and practice I reverted back to my first love...drawing. Every mural, project, painting I have been commissioned to do has always begun with drawing partnered with a lot of planned visual thinking. The artwork you see here is mainly drawing whether it's color pencil painting or graphite, I believe in drawing and feel very strong about perfecting that fundamental skill. My focus is on learning, practicing and perfecting the techniques of drawing and sharing it with others on a wide range of subjects. My subject matter remains diverse as artistic perception changes from day to day, season to season, location to location, object to object and each remains a wonder to inspire at any particular time. I think artworks should be gorgeous, amazing, humorous, fun, clever, personal, highly skilled and pleasurable. Thanks for looking.
