Phil Couture was born in Quebec, Canada, grew up in Lakeland, Florida, and currently lives in Kyoto, Japan. Largely self-taught from studying the works of Old Masters, the Impressionists and the Post-Impressionists, Phil is always experimenting with styles, surfaces, and subjects. He has attended Harrison School of the Arts, figure drawing classes at Old Hyde Park Center in Tampa, FL and Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. Another source of training and inspiration comes from his travels to Europe, Asia, New York City, Boston, and Canada with his wife Rachel. Phil's artwork was recently published by Phoenix Education in the textbook 'Exploring Genre: Romanticism.' He enjoys drawing in graphite and charcoal as well as painting in oil on wood panel and linen canvas. Phil's artwork has won numerous awards and his paintings hang in private collections worldwide. He hopes to pursue fine art as a career and continue to develop his skills and ideas.
