My name is Rebecca Pickrel and Iím a self-taught artist, photographer and interior decorator. My husband and I, along with our two English Mastiffs and Great Dane, currently split our time between Moorcroft, WY and Sheridan, WY.
Vincent Van Gogh once said, 'If you hear a voice within you saying you are not a painter,' then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.' This has become my motto as a self-taught artist, especially in those seasons of frustrations and dry spells.
When it comes to painting, I've experimented with various art mediums through the years but have just recently discovered a newfound sense of freedom in finger-painting with acrylics. It's a little messy, random and a whole lot of fun.
The digital camera era opened up a whole new world of possibilities to me as a photographer because of the ability to be impulsive and not so structured in how I take photos, not to mention the convenience factor. I love to look through a camera lens and capture beauty in objects or spaces that may not be typical. Finding the right combination of subject, color, texture and composition are the components that set a photo apart for me to make it truly special. I also enjoy messing around with photo editing software just to take what could have been a rather mundane or even typical picture to a new level of creativity. While some photographers may frown upon enhancing photos in any capacity, to me its just another wonderful outlet to play in.
