Richard J. Mordecki Artist, entrepreneur musician. I was born in McKeesport,PA in June of 1942. I grew up in a dirty steel town where everyone worked at the steel mills in the area. I always had an interest in art as long as I can remember. I took art classes at a local vocational high school, learned nothing except for what I experimented with on my own. During high school I worked for a local china company doing artwork for ashtrays, glassware, etc. spending hours on end doing gold lettering on birthday, wedding and anniversary dishes. After graduating I took the usual course and got a job in a local steel foundry and bored of that very quickly. I was able to get a job at an ad agency in Pittsburgh which immersed me in the world of commercial art BC (before computers). This was great but I found out I was able to make more money painting signs. All the while I was doing artwork but the commercial aspect of art always paid the billls. Getting married and raising 6 kids put a damper on doing much art, but I still kept my hand in it. The eventuality was that the sign business provided a good living for my family and I now own a successful sign company doing the everything from truck signs to electric, neon LED digital displays and casino signage. All along I have been a drummer in a rock and blues band with my son and 5 other great people, still performing(can you believe a 70 year old rock drummer) Its been great fun. Now I am selling my business to my son and his wife and my wife (who is also a stained glass artist and avid quilter) and we plan to pursue our art interests full time. Hence this website. We are planning a lot of joint ventures combining our interests.
