Born in 1967 in NJ, I've been drawing as long as I can remember, inspired to create from life and an OVER-ACTIVE imagination...
I have an identical twin brother, also an artist, (always a novelty)...
...City meets country when I was 5 or 6 and moved from NJ to Upstate NY - years of adventure amid the natural world, reading about animals in the Time-Life Nature library, copying the pictures...artistic influences were my first Marvel comic-book, the pulp novels of Robert E. Howard, and Frank Frazetta.
U.S. Army time in the 80's with the fine boys of the 82nd Airborne, my brothers to this day and AIRBORNE! ALL THE WAY!
Graduated from the Illustration School, Academy of Art College in San Francisco, Class of '96 - studied the classic American illustrators from the Howard Pyle school, painted landscapes on location in oil, expanded my awareness of the graphic novel form from class with Barron Storey.
The internet revolution occurred within a year or two of my degree and made big changes in the professional business practices of the illustrator. I drew animation storyboards and learned to paint murals in oil.
Now here, 18 years under my belt of - drawing, painting, writing, working in large and small scale, seeing reality (and my own version of it), oftentimes creating freely, without a purpose.
About my art- 100% created by my own hand with traditional materials: I usually start with pencil, then ink, or paint, opaque white, etc., whatever gets the job done to make it look 'correct' when viewed by the naked eye. After production, the images are scanned and if necessary corrected in Photoshop CS.
