Born in 1967 in NJ, I've been drawing as long as I can remember, inspired to create images from life and an overactive imagination. I have an identical twin brother, also an artist. When I was 5 years old, we moved from NJ to Upstate NY - spent the next ten years moving around New York State, and I enjoyed exploring the natural world, reading about animals in the library, copying the pictures. Artistic influences were my first Marvel comic-book, the pulp novels of Robert E. Howard, and Frank Frazetta.
After high school I joined the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, my brothers to this day and AIRBORNE! ALL THE WAY!
A few years later I graduated from the Illustration School, Academy of Art College in San Francisco, Class of '96 - studied the classic American illustrators from the Howard Pyle school, painted landscapes on location in oil, expanded my awareness of the graphic novel form.
The internet revolution occurred within a year or two of my degree and made big changes in the professional business practices of the illustrator. I drew animation storyboards and learned to paint murals in oil.
About my art- 100% created by my own hand with traditional materials: I usually start with pencil, then ink, or paint, opaque white, etc., whatever gets the job done. After production, the images are scanned and, if necessary, adjusted with Adobe tools.
