A third-generation, Chinese-American son of hard-working parents with California roots dating back to the 1800’s railroad building days, Richard grew up in Glendora, California. A two-week trip to the Canadian Rockies that his parents took him on when he was six shaped his life forever. He spent his childhood religiously pouring over every book with photography that he possibly could. Then as a junior at Cal Poly Pomona in the late 1990’s, it occured to him that he could learn to take his own photos.
Richard has subsequently traveled through most regions of the country. He also managed to earn his MFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco during that time. His work has been published in magazines, books, advertising and has stock image representation by Alamy Images.
