Los Angeles native, Robert Gerdes, began his formal professional studies in art as a scholarship student at the Chouniard Art Institute in downtown Los Angeles. Later, he furthered his studies at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.
Since 1978 Robert has resided in San Diego, California. During the 1980s and 1990s he had annual one-person shows at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village in Balboa Park; he was also a member of the Southwestern Artists association, also in Spanish Village, for a number of years.
Robert has been a member of the Coronado Art Association since 1987, and the San Diego County Art Mart Association since 2007.
Currently, with these two organizations, he shows regularly on the first and third Sunday of each month at Art In The Park in Spreckels Park, Coronado, and in Balboa Park, near the Houses of Pacific Relations, on the second and fourth Saturday and Sunday of the month.
