My wife, I and our cat reside in Tustin, California. My first photographs were published by Surfer Magazine in 1988. Over the years my photography has been published world-wide and has appeared in surfing, sporting, men's and women's magazines, high school and college texts and corporate brochures. My photos have played key roles in advertising campaigns by major corporations (Estee Lauder, Pacific Sunwear) and have been prominently displayed on the walls of several restaurant chains.
The ocean, its waves and those who ride - or would ride them - have long been my most favorite subjects. I describe dramatic and unique wave action as 'Nature's Performance Art'. I live for the swells (and good weather) that will produce such imagery. My collections of images captured at the Wedge in Newport Beach are the largest and most comprehensive in current existence. The Surfers Journal (* the most prestigious of publications dedicated to surfing) published three Wedge-related stories which I wrote, accompanied by my photographs.
The mountains, canyons, streams and lakes of the Sierras and Rockies, especially in the spring and fall months, sit high on my places-to-be and photograph list.
I have great affection for animals, both domestic and wild, and welcome opportunities to photograph them. 'Shoot it with a camera' is a long-held belief and a statement which I may have well originated.
Nowadays I shoot mainly with a digital camera. However, this does not rule out occasions for which I'll shoot with a film camera. When I do I use Fuji's Velvia 50 slide film.
I am also in the business of shaping and building surfboards. I specialize in building knee boards to customer specifications.
I have maintained websites for both photography and knee boards since 1996.
