Roxanne learned how to wield a brush in grade school by her mother, also an artist. Though she finished graduate school with a non-art degree, she eventually rekindled her desire for art and decided that life was too short to ignore a true fire and passion for creativity.
While much of her work is on the whimsical side, the topics, emotions and ideas are fully real and expressed through word, feeling or visual symbolism in the many personas she creates. Lines, movement and color are what provide her unique pieces with life and earthy fascination.
Roxanne creates mainly mixed media pieces, utilizing acrylics, watercolors, pen, pencil, ink, and papers to create layers of sumptuous color creating a unique flavor for each design.
Roxanne also owns and operates bluePotato Art, located in the heart of the Midwest, and is highlighted as a South Dakota artist at South Dakota Baskets Unlimited. Roxanne was born and raised in South Dakota and traveled extensively before returning to her home state to work, raise a family and begin her art endeavors. Having lived in both Northern and Southern South Dakota, and traveling most of the state taking photographs and visiting the sites, provides her with a rich foundation for quirky, contemporary art that instills Midwest culture, values and traditions.
