Landscape painting is my passion abstract and representational; I cross between the two styles because I find by painting the real it can be abstracted into further ever more interesting configuration‘s.
I have been lucky to have lived in some beautiful areas of outstanding natural beauty including six years in the Alpine region of Victoria Australia and currently I reside just south of The Peak District National Park in Derbyshire UK. I find inspiration in my everyday life and I paint what I encounter, so to create my art I spend many hours assessing the photographs I have taken as I have gone about my days. I carry a camera everywhere I go and try and capture opportune moments of light and weather effects.
I sketch and study a view to help place and rearrange the composition, I also crop and manipulate photographs to maximise the focal point of each work. This ensures that every artwork is unique to me and therefore unique to the viewer.
I work mainly in ‘Atelier Interactive Acrylic’ as it has the qualities of watercolour and dries beautifully matt to avoid the harsh shine sometimes found in acrylics. I also use acid free tissue paper and sand or glitter to add texture and interest depending on what the intended outcome of the piece is. I paint on a variety of supports including Loxley canvas and Arches watercolour paper.
