Sandy Hemmer is primarily a self-taught artist who developed a passion for drawing at a very early age. She has a degree from the University of South Carolina in Business Education and spent 26 years teaching in that field. It was only after she retired that she began seriously pursuing her passion for art by joining art leagues, enrolling in art classes, attending workshops, and painting on a regular basis. Her work includes oils, watercolors, acrylics, mixed media, and pastels, but she now paints predominantly in pastels and mixed media. Although Sandy enjoys the challenge of beginning a new painting, experimenting with cutting-edge techniques, and customizing commissioned artwork, her greatest personal satisfaction is derived from the portraits she painted of each of her five grandchildren.
