I am a self-taught artist who began life in ballet but at age 19, after studying for 2 years in Paris, France, assimilating a whole world of art, I gave up the toe shoes and suddenly began dancing with paint brush on canvas. Throughout the years, while I earned my living as an ER nurse, I traveled to many exotic lands. My painting reflects the influences of Egyptian, Middle Eastern, European, Chinese, and Mexican cultures. Much of my life was spent in southern Arizona and I have many serene and austere desert scenes painted in a 'watercolor' style in the delicate pastel colors which predominate there. My artistic vision is sensual, quiet, and whimsical--more spiritual that cerebral and embraces impressionistic, expressionistic, and surrealistic styles. Normally I work in oils, but occassionally watercolor and mixed media. I describe my process as one of meditation--an unconcious dialogue between the canvas and the eye. Each piece is unique and authentic (vs. commercial). A more recent artistic endeavor is in the area of decoupage under glass plates or what I call, ' windows on heaven-worlds.' These have achieved a wide appeal for their variety of content, jewel-like quality, and versatility. Also, I am developing digital artworks which can be professionally printed on paper or canvas in various sizes at reasonable cost. Presently, I reside in Taos County, N.M. I live in a pastoral setting with a view to the east which resembles Switzerland and the high desert plateau to the west. In this wonderful peaceful abundance, I continue to pursue my diverse visions. My art is available for viewing on 2 internet galleries: www.yessy.com and www.boundlessgallery.com.
