There is something about art, about creating it and watching it form, that pulls at me. I watch an illustration develop from a whisper of suggestion, to a sketch, to a completed piece and it absolutely fills me. The medium that I work in is a slow one. It requires a huge amount of patience and devotion to complete an illustration. When I work, I sink into the piece. The minute details and the texture and the process all utterly thrill me.
I was asked where my inspiration for my art comes from. I know that artists typically have some deep, soul rending answer for this. Mine is simple: I love what I do. My inspiration is my passion for creating something beautiful and the startling rush of emotion I feel every time I step back to look at a finished piece. It never fails to surprise me.
As a commission artist, my boundaries get pushed every time I accept a job. I am entrusted with the task of bringing a portrait of a client's loved one or pet to life on paper, or to take someone's vision and form it into an illustration. I endeavor to capture every nuance, every spark of spirit and personality and translate that to ink and paper. What I do isn't going to change the world, but it is important and personal to my clients. I'm honored to be a part of it.
