The Schwarz Gallery (est. 1930) is one of the U.S.’s most active galleries dealing in 19th- and 20th-century American and European art; its specialty is the works of Philadelphia artists. The firm is housed in a nineteenth century town house in Center City, Philadelphia. Thematic shows have been held of Philadelphia marine art, landscapes, and portraits as well as catalogues that include the works of major Philadelphia artists such as Cecilia Beaux, Thomas Birch, Arthur Carles, William Merritt Chase, Thomas Eakins, Daniel Garber, Charles Willson Peale, and William Trost Richards. One notable exhibit featured paintings by sixteen members of the famous Peale family. With each exhibit the gallery publishes a scholarly catalogue with information about the artists and their works.
