I worked for many years in the advertising business as a graphic artist, designer, and art production manager. For my own pleasure I drew line drawings, much like day dreaming. Start somewhere and see where it takes you. The images were eclectic, whimsical, multicultural, someone called it 'tribal', and always busy with filled space.
A few years ago I finally started putting color into them. It is great therapy and meditation! Creating images that are playful, mysterious, happy, or peaceful is a feeling of freedom for me. Life can be chaotic enough, so many of my images bring into view something to counter that or make commentary on.
The best comments I get are from people who are drawn into a particular piece. They tell me why they like it or what it reminds them of. There is this connection going on; my visual work and their emotions. I'd like to believe the pieces are more than just 'pretty pictures'. That there is something going on there that someone else can pick up on. It's such a human quality to find emotional connections, especially positive ones.
The medium I use primarily is acrylic, but I am experimenting with painting dyes on silk and pastels.
