The unique art of Sherry Cameron Davis exemplifies the cultural influence of her deep South Texas border roots. Her early life on the family ranch gave Sherry a deep appreciation for nature, it’s colors and the magnificence of life.
The textures and colors of the 1930 ranch house coupled with the palate of colorful wildflowers and the green nuance shades of the Texas brush country became her instinctive colors and surface choices. The imprint of her paternal family’s cattle industry and her maternal family’s independent women yield the substructure for the content of her artwork.
Sherry’s interests in photography and travel have taken her throughout Texas, California, New Mexico, NYC, Mexico and Europe. Those experiences have become another platform of imagery on her canvasses. The abstracted poured acrylic, watercolor and collage art work illustrate life, beauty, and a sense of adventure. Sherry says, “There are no dark issues that I want to express in my art; but there is light, joy and beauty in the midst of struggles. I strive to portray these positive attributes linked with the deep character of the human spirit. My faith impels me to express myself in this way.”
Sherry has a degree in Dental Hygiene. She attended Del Mar College and Stephen F. Austin University, She began her art pursuit in 1987. The various colleges and universities she attended are: Mississippi College in Meridian, Richland College in Dallas, University of Texas at Pan American, Instituto de Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and various other independent art studies.
Some of her favorite instructors have been Gerald Brommer, Jane Jones, Frank Webb, Don Andrews, Janet Rogers, Carol Barnes, Liz Hill, Nicholas Simmons, Raul Touzon, Krispen Spencer and Mary Alice Braukman.
Davis’s art has been displayed in galleries, professional office buildings and restaurants in McAllen, Weslaco, Kerrville, and Austin. Her work is on display at The Artist Showplace Gallery in Dallas, Texas .
