Although I love drawing, painting, photography, and graphic design, I now primarily 'paint with paper.' Inspired by Eric Carle’s illustrations in the Very Hungry Caterpillar, I have developed my own unique style of painting with paper. I recycle discarded paintings or create cattle marker or watercolor paintings specifically to be cut into pieces, making sure they include plenty of textural elements. I then create my collage with the paper pieces. I often add feathers, grasses, wheat, or other materials to the collage. Each piece is unique with its own individual personality and story.
I received a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design from Montana State University. My art has been featured at several juried art shows in Montana and I received Honorable Mentions for 'Running Bear' and the 'Peace Buffalo.' My original art is currently for sale at Four Winds Gallery in Bozeman, Montana; Kindred Spirits Gallery in Sheridan, Montana; and the Strodes Mill Gallery in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I often donate my art to local nonprofit organizations for their fundraisers. I am a member of Southwest Montana Arts and The Emerson Cultural Center. I also began Running Free From Cancer, a fundraiser to benefit cancer survivors and their families. I sell raffle tickets each year for one of my original pieces and organize an art show as part of a fundraiser.
I believe we have all been blessed with creativity. My creative journey began with my grandmother. Those who knew Grandma McAvoy never considered her to be an artist -- they saw her as a junk collector. I saw her as a woman with vision. She was full of imagination and was always creating or building something. When As the most influential person in my creative life, my grandmother instilled within me the eagerness and desire to create. May the touch of my grandmother’s life also touch you. As you gaze upon my creations, may you find a freedom and peace in your soul, love in your heart, and an inspiration to discover your own creative world.
