About Skip Hunt

'I make images... so that all my moments will not be lost in time like tears in rain.' ~ Skip Hunt

Skip Hunt, born on the wind-swept plains of Oklahoma, is a professional photographer in Austin, Texas. He picked up a 35mm camera in the mid-1970's and has never stopped sharing his unique vision via photographic images. Many moons ago, he was bitten hard by the wanderlust beast and has been canvassing the globe ever since. Visionary artists such as Pete Turner, David Lynch, Cindy Sherman, and Andre Kertesz set Skip's sight on a fine-art horizon early on. His insatiable thirst for rich color and even richer cultural exploration keeps him on the road most of the time. When he's recharging his batteries, he calls Austin, Texas home.

Skip Hunt Launches The Deep End Colombia On IndieGoGo

Austin, TX - May 3rd, 2012

The Deep End: Colombia Once again, Skip Hunt will be tearing away from the familiar and immersing himself in a country and culture he knows very little about, Colombia. The only plan is to enter the country and follow intuition for 6 weeks of exploration and adventure. A photobook and fine art prints will be produced during this trip, as well as "from the road" travel blogging. This time it will be all about the shared experiences and images captured with updates for supporters and project exclusive ePublications. This will also be more about including the audience in a private, artistic journal. Not so much a travelog or documentary of the place, but more focussed on how the place inspires. There'll be interesting images from the street, found objects, sketches, textures, sounds, etc. And any artwork all of those elements may inspire as well as first pers...

Culled down to 60 fine art images in a photo book beautifully printed and perfect bound by MagCloud on state of the art digital printers and high quality paper stock. "Took off on a last minute trip to wander around the Washington, D.C. area and then ended up meandering off to N.Y.C. to continue riding the vivid inspiration you can get while traveling. These images were the result. Something about rambling just tickles the ol' muse and images just seem to appear before you no matter where you go." Start Spreading The News DCNYC 2011

Austin, TX - August 24th, 2011

Just got back from traveling a couple months in Mexico that I blogged HERE and editing photos from this trip HERE and now packing to leave again for D.C. and N.Y.C. for about 3 weeks in total. I was in D.C. to see one of my images displayed in the Smithsonian Castle last year and really enjoyed touring the galleries and driving around the Virginia countryside near my sister's place in Hamilton, VA. I just felt a bit rushed I guess. I wanted to do a double-header trip to D.C. and N.Y.C. last year but the schedule wouldn't allow it and I didn't find a friend's place to stay at until it was too late.  This time, the...

Heading Back To Mexico

Austin, TX - June 19th, 2011

JUST PULLED THE TRIGGER! Well, now the deed is done. No more apprehension and playin' it safe. Really can't afford it, but I've purchased a ticket for next Saturday to the furthest airport from Austin in Mexico, ie. Cancun. That's not really my destination, but I'll likely stay in a cheap hotel near the bus station and at least take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres for a day. After that, might go to Merida. Though, I have absolutely no plan at all. Just making it up on the fly. Have decided to go light this time as well. Only taking an iPhone 4 for shooting & editing and a small Olympus XZ-1 compact camera for better resolution stuff. Haven't been in the Yucatan or the Southernmost portion of Mexico since before digital cameras, so I'm really excited to photograph areas I haven't seen in nearly 20 years! I've also learned a good deal more now and at least have a working knowledge ...

Skip Hunt Go West

Austin, TX - June 10th, 2010

Leaving on my motorcycle and headed West. Not sure where, but hoping to head out Monday 6/14/10 if the weather is decent. I’m going to try something different. I’m going to utilize social media more as I progress through a pathless motorcycle journey. Taking tips and suggestions along the way, posting images, writing, digital downloads, etc. Some will be for sale and some will be free. The last time I made it possible to give my PayPal donations and was surprised how many donated. This time I’m going to try and package inexpensive content as digital downloads, short magazines journals, etc. I have no idea if this is going to work out, but I think it’ll be best to keep in all in one place and link back to it as announcements when there’s new content. I was going to use a more robust site platform for this, but I found the Weebly.com offerings did everything I needed it to do and VER...

Skip Hunt Particles RECEPTION

Austin, TX - November 24th, 2009

This show was up at Thunderbird Cafe in a different form. This time the display has changed into more of an "installation" using thin wooden dowels and tiny wooden clothespins. "For this show I wanted to play around a bit and experiment with abstracts. I was curious whether or not the nature of composed abstract photographic images consisting of mostly color and texture... would still hold up when sliced and dissected into individual pieces. I found that they did in fact hold up quite well! And in some cases, portions were even stronger than the whole. The display was something I wanted to play around will as well, so I decided to slice up large abstracts into smaller pieces on a grid. I printed them and clipped them in a wooden grid using long wooden dowels and miniature clothespins and put the entire piece back together like an assortment of butterfly pieces making up a larger...

These are the images & excerpts of travel musings made on this journey. Disfruta! "Skip Hunt, born on the wind-swept plains of Oklahoma, is a professional photographer in Austin, Texas. Skip Hunt Exhibition And Opening

Austin, Tx - July 8th, 2008

Hey everybody! I'm happy to announce that I have a confirmed date and time for my next opening on Saturday, July 19th from 7-9pm. The work is already on display at Cafe Medici (11th and West Lynn) and will be until August 24th. But please come by for the opening. It's going to be even better than the last one with much easier parking, etc. There will be wine, snacks, etc. for the event and I've already confirmed a live didgeridoo player. Maybe two! For those who attended my last showing... I reprinted a few as giclee' (different print process that yields a nice velvety look as opposed to the metallic prints I did last time)... and I printed mostly new images as well. If you're in Austin, Texas on July 19th, please try to make it by Cafe Medici for the show. It should be great fun! And make sure you tell all your friends. :-) I'd like to get a rough head count of who might be...
