About Sourav Bose

From one of the most densely populated and culturally vibrant metros of the world - Kolkata, the city of Satyajit Ray and Mother Teresa, I am Sourav Bose. My artistic journey began when I was a child, scribbling elephants and faces on the cement floor of our courtyard. My father noticed my talent for art and admitted to an art school. Soon I was winning some painting talent hunts( called 'Sit & Draw' competitions here) and my love affair with painting began. Studies often interrupted my artistic pursuits, but due to the encouragement of my late mother(bless her soul) I continued. At about the teenage, I reached a dead end - suddenly I lost faith in any artistic education, did not attend any competitions and rarely painted. Only sporadically I would paint, that too due to the goading of my mom. Studies took over - passed my secondary, Higher secondary and graduation with art a distant pastime. The ruinous financial trouble that followed my dad's retirement from Govt. service put paid to my dreams of me turning a professional artist. I had to get a regular job and life chugged along. But art somehow never let me go away completely - it was around this time that I came across a Book Series called ' The Great Artists' which featured the lives and works of the greatest artists of all time. It opened my eyes to what art is and can be. I began to paint in opaque watercolors copies of these works and was appreciated by all. In 2002, I got a Govt. job which took care of my financial needs but soon my mother fell ill. She died in 2006 and somehow that heart wrenching sadness galvanized me to immerse myself into painting. I began taking Private Tuition from Art college graduates and started painting in Oils and acrylics. I was also introduced to proper Drawing methods, esp. in Conte pencils which has since become one of my favorite media. Since 2011, I also began to exhibit in hotels and galleries. No sale yet but got some good reviews. This, in a nutshell, is my artistic journey, folks.
