..STEPHEN MORRIS was born in Smethwick,which is on the edge of Birmingham in the West Midands of England. At the age of 13 he was awarded a place at Moseley Art School in Birmingham where he attended for three years. Later he was given a place to study for one year at Fircroft College. Whilst there he won a scholarship to study in Sweden at the Marieborgs College in Norrkoping. On his return to Britain he went to Cardiff University for three years, which was followed by two years of research work before going to Leicester University to take a higher degree.
On leaving Leicester he took up a post in the Faculty of Art and Design at the Wolverhampton Polytechnic which later became a University. He left after 18 years to become a full time artist and he moved to the South of France where he lives and has his studios. To date he has had over 80 solo exhibitions of his work which have consisted of Visual Poetry, Paintings, Prints and Sculpture. He has also published 11 books of poetry, a book of childrens stories and one play. During the nineteen seventies and eighties, through the British Council, he toured the U.S.A,, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark as well as all over Britain, reading his poetry.
