Through my photographic art, my desire is share the wonders of Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. Whether itís the creation of God, or sculpted by the hands of Man, there is beauty all around us. My collection of fine art photography includes both recognizable and popular destinations of the Pacific Northwest as well as intimate, rarely visited locales.
My goal is to create fine art images that project emotions into the viewerís realm of imagination, but still appear to be a straightforward documentary-style photograph. Influenced by pictorialism, the use of creative capture techniques and digital processing (long exposure, HDR, filters, Lightroom, Photoshop, etc) allows me the artistic freedom to manipulate the image in ways that still appear ďrealĒ, but in no way are a representation of the actual scene.
My first love is black and white photography and Iím inspired by the works of many artists of the past. Developing my images into black and white photographs allows me the latitude to experiment with my artistic creativity, yet retaining the feel of realism.
Of course, not all images translate into black and white imagery. As part of my artistic vision, scenes including sunrises, sunsets, rainbows and fall colors are usually developed as a color photograph, though not as it appeared if you were present.
Much of the subject matter that I capture is found by exploring. I typically establish a general destination along with a basic shoot list based on prior research. Once Iím on location, I generally warm up with a few planned images before my creative spirit takes over and leads me down the path to find and see subject material, from an artistic viewpoint, that many people would miss.
As my artistic vision matures, I find my body of work developing into specific fine art photography projects, both short and long term in duration. I find that a photography project allows me to artistically explore a subject in deeper imaginative and expressive ways.
