A warm hello to all, and welcome to Fine Art America. My serious interest in photography started back in the 80’s when I was still working as an engineer. Through a strange turn of events I wound up working in photo retail, which really got my photographic juices flowing. I soon joined a local camera club - which I must say - was the best decision I’ve ever made to improve the quality of my work. In the mid 90’s I joined the Nature Photographers website, which is like an online camera club where you share your images and comments with the whole world. Throughout the 90’s my work again took a leap forward as a result of workshops with the late Galen Rowell. Although gradual neutral density filters have been around for many years, it was Galen who took them to a whole new level by creating a array of custom (Singh-Ray) filters. These filters allow one to selectively control light, so as to greatly expand the dynamic range of the image.
I got started in digital photography in 1996 by having my transparencies scanned and then working them in Photoshop 3.0. In 2002 I started shooting digital with an Olympus C3000 - which I still have. To this day I’m still amazed at the 11 x 14 prints I’ve made from that 3.2 megapixel camera.
Currently I’m shooting with either a Nikon D2X or D700 for my color work, and an infrared converted Nikon D100 for my infrared work. My favorite lens is an old 75-150 f3.5 series E. Although I still shoot in color, I much prefer the challenges of infrared. I shoot exclusively in RAW and use Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3 for both my color and infrared imagery.
I hope you enjoy viewing my images as much as I enjoyed creating them.
