My work is Oils on Canvas and I began painting professionally on Maui in 1982. I would paint a couple paintings and give as gifts at christmas, then my wife at that time met a lady that was opening a gallery an looking for paintings. The first works that sold were three larger surrealistic ones which were purchased by a young man to give to his father. Galleries that handled my work were Hedy Walter Gallery, Lahaina, Maui, Stephen Sands Beach Front Studio, Lahaina, Maui and Princeville Galleries, Princeville, Kauai. I was also a member of the Lahaina Art Society and would sell my paintings under the Banyon Tree by the Old Courthouse. Most recently was Wall Decor Frame Shop & Gallery in Orange Beach, Alabama.
I do anything from small miniatures to a recent Removable Mural measuring 12'8' wide by 7'6' high. Commissions are welcomed. I have a new website now that also has the Mural as a Work-in-Progress.
The work I enjoy the most are seascapes and wildlife. When I lived in Hawaii I did more old ships as there was a replica of one where we lived in Lahaina. I do a lot of detail work even to the point of 1000's of small brush strokes in order to attempt the look of fur on animals.
I am a self-taught artist, which maybe has taken me longer to get where I am an to get where I want to be, but I feel comfortable with that.
In 1991 we moved back to Kansas, not because we really wanted to, but because we needed to be here. It's been a little harder doing seascapes, the waves on the lakes just aren't the same! (haha).
