Susan Smith Evans enjoys working in many different media—painting, printmaking, and photography, often combining these into mixed media works of art. She has also painted over 25 murals in both public and private spaces.
Susan received her BFA from the University of Nebraska. After a few years in a printmaking workshop in Santa Monica, CA, she spent over a year working and photographing in Iran and Afghanistan. In 1980 she earned an MFA in from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1988-89 Susan traveled and photographed with Professor Ron Evans on his one-year sabbatical study of Asian ceramics. In 2011 Susan retired from 24 years of teaching art at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA.
'My artwork is based on observations of Nature and the relationship of human beings— with our scientific discoveries—to Nature. My work is meant to have multiple layers of meaning. My hope is to create works that capture the mystery and awe of life on earth.'
