Living in San Francisco and traveling to exotic places around the world has contributed to the bright colors, vibrant energy, experimental process, and diverse subject matter in my paintings. My work is highly expressive, emotional, painterly, fresh, and imaginative. My vision is broad, paintings are fairly large in scale (usually 5 x 3 feet, 4 x 6 feet, etc.) and, most are acrylic on stretched canvas. I usually apply layers of brush strokes. Surfaces often become richly textured and show the complexity of process. Some are more gestural. All my paintings are originals, creative, and my own personal vision. I don't have any prints.
I am told I have a strong voice, execution of my painting shows confidence and maturity, and that (although diverse), my work is memorable and engaging.
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art -Artist's Gallery has sold and rented my work for many years. I have not marketed my work much otherwise, so I don't have a large show record or gallery history. I have needed to show and sell locally because paintings are large, and expenses to crate / ship are considerable. Currently I have accummulated enough for a one person show and am hoping to get the opportunity or locate a suitable large gallery
I completed an MFA at the University of Wisconsin in painting approx. 25 years ago. Small examples of my work may be viewed on my website at www.egan-artwork.com. I have for years signed my work S.Q. Egan, using my middle initial and maiden name, but I am also known as Suzanne Egan-Dole.
