'Whenever possible, I work en plein air, out in the countryside. I paint that special view which speaks to me. Who knows, it may no longer exist after the next new house is built.' Mr. Malin is most comfortable spending hours painting out on location. Once back in the studio, he often enjoys creating larger oils from these outdoor landscapes.
Watercolors were his first love. Now he works with oils in a loose, Impressionist style, still dependent on the strength of the underdrawing.
Thaw received a B.A. in Art from Beloit College in Wisconsin and went on to the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia to receive a Masters of Fine Art in painting in 1974. He moved from Grad school to Martha's Vineyard Island in Massachusets off of Cape Cod and live and painted there until moving to Texas in 2005. From 1973 until the mid 1990's he worked mostly in watercolors, changing to only oil painting about 1996
Since this past July, Thaw has been working on an internet art sales project. He goes out and paints a landscape or works in the studio on a still life on a 6' x 8' canvas panel. He then digitally photographs the painting, uploads it to his website, thawmalinart.com, and posts it for sale on eBay with a beginning price of $100. If you have visited his website and signed on to his 'New Painting' mailing list, the painting he just finished will appear in your email everyday that he creates a new painting.
Thaw Malin III does not have any artwork galleries listed.
