Tom Griffin was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. He lived in Chicago for 10 years where he attended dental school at Northwestern University and went on to become a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago. He and his wife Elizabeth moved to North Carolina in 1991 so that he could complete residency as an orthodontist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently practices in Cary, North Carolina. They have three children: Randi, who is at Harvard University, Kelly who is at Brown University, and Joshua who is currently applying to college.
Winter and specifically snow has always held a nostalgic and romantic captivation for Tom. Snowmen became a predominant theme after he painted a Christmas card for his wife and later had it printed for patients and doctors who support his practice. It has become an annual tradition. Tom paints primarily with oils on hard board presently but many of the images displayed are acrylic. When not seeing patients or painting Tom enjoys fishing and being anywhere with his lovely wife. Tom gives full credit to God for all of his many blessings for without His grace he would truly have nothing of worth.
