Hawaii seascape painter Trey Surtees was born in Pensacola, Florida in 1953. His father was a very talented artist and had the most influence on the creative endeavors of Trey's life. His mother was also an artist and specialized in floral paintings. Starting out as a cartoonist and then a portrait artist, he later followed his passion and became a painter of the sea. Trey has worked as artist in residence at some of the finer resort hotels and the Queen Elizabeth 2 ocean liner. In 1975 while painting portraits on this famous cruise ship's third and final New York to Carribean cruise of the season, the ship was reported lost off of the radar screens for five hours in the Bermuda Triangle. That story was later covered in a 1980's television documentary on the Bermuda Triangle. After moving to Hawaii in 1978, Trey became artist in residence at large hotel/resorts on Oahu, Maui and on the Big Island where he resides now. Trey has quickly become one of the most versatile seascape and surf art painters in Hawaii today. His paintings are in private collections around the world, from the U.S. to Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Austalia. His passion for surfing and kayaking has inspired Trey to translate to canvas, for others to experience, his love of the ocean and all its power and majesty.
