My interest in photography began several years ago when my wife and I decided to take our daughter and spend a year on the road to see America. I had a small Cannon Elph something-or-other, but because the photos took so long to upload to our web page I used the smallest file size. The result was a mess of great photos that were too small to really do anything with.
I decided then that I would learn how to use a _real_ camera. I took a B&W film class, learned how to use an SLR and develope film, etc. It was during this class that I decided digital was definately the way to go. No way was my wife going to like me turning our out-building into a dark room/studio. Besides, I didn't have the resources to pull it together properly. Not to mention the chemicals. Digital just seemed the most affordable, compact, and less messy way to go.
I also took one class on Photoshop, but since I don't do any major manipulations outside of adjusting tones, I can't really say I know how to work Photoshop. It would be an insult to those who do, honestly.
I focus on composition, mainly, and I love color. Being in the right place at the right time helps alot. My main subjects tend to be Nature and Landscape, but I have done several events and a couple of weddings. I have yet to work with models.
One unexpected avenue that photography has opened up for me is Film Production. Recently, I have worked with a friend and partner in Ocala to produce a short, a commercial for a contest, and a feature film (Director of Photography). I also directed two commercials for the 2010 Crash the Super Bowl contest. We didn't win, but the kids were great and we had a blast.
