I have always loved painting and while at school I achieved O'level art, which was my favourite subject. My personality traits are quite often apparent in my work. I am truthful and direct which people can find a little disconcerting! I portray my images in very much the same way - they are what they are; not confined by rules or convention. I recognise that I can possibly be a little impatient and this is one the reasons why I enjoy painting with quick drying acrylic paints. I am also a bit of a perfectionist and this can be seen in the quality of my work - 'I've never been afraid of hard work and if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.' I feel lucky that the hobbies which I enjoy in my free time, contribute towards my intense enthusiasm for painting. The photographs I take whilst walking become the reference material for my work.' Although I had a solid grounding in art many years ago, the individualistic techniques I use now have been self-taught and developed over many years, and I feel this has been advantageous. My style has not been moulded but has evolved. It has not been influenced by the work of others but has become uniquely my own by the processes of practice, development, persistence, trial and error.
